ANNOUNCING: THE CHAI DANCE COMPANY - A DIVISION OF THE SARAH SOMMER CHAI FOLK ENSEMBLE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, August 15, 2011

The Chai Folk Arts Council Inc. is pleased to announce the newly established CHAI DANCE COMPANY.  This performance level troupe is for male and female dancers ages 12 + up who have a passion for dance.  The CHAIDANCE COMPANY will be solely focusing on Chai repertoire in preparation for joining the senior ensemble. 

World dance master and Israeli choreographer Milana Lanstein from the Professional Representative Israeli Dance Ensemble “Ayalot Ha Negev” in Jerusalem, has joined our team to head up this department. Milana brings a wealth of experienceand has performed and directed all over the world, including  Spain, France, Argentina, Mexico, China, London, Austria, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.

Auditions for the CHAI DANCE COMPANY will take place on Thursday, September 8th and weekly rehearsals will take place on Monday evenings at the Chai Studio on Notre Dame Avenue.  Participationfees will be fully subsidized by the Chai Folk Arts Council Inc. in this inaugural year. 

About Chai:  The Sarah Sommer Chai Folk Ensemble has been widely acclaimed as North America’s oldest and largest Israeli folk dance group.  Founded in 1964 by the late Sarah Sommer, Chai has built an international reputation for theunique blend of international dance, music and song that gives it its name…Hebrew for “alive”.  A truly all-encompassing Jewish cultural experience, Chai is made up of more than 35 dancers, singers and musicians:  the only Israeli folk dance group in NorthAmerica to perform exclusively to live musical accompaniment.
