Darrell Penner - Manitoba PC Candidate for Kildonan

press release

Darrell was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Darrell has been active in the community in family, sport, religion and making a difference through his financial assistance/guidance to individuals, organizations and business.

Darrell is known to many as the Dreammaker! When asked what he does for a living, the reply is “I am a Dreammaker”. This stems from his commitment to listen, present options to the issue and then act on making the solution a reality. His caring quality of listening to others and being a visionary makes him unique and equipped to be the MLA for Kildonan!

He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1986 with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree with a major in Finance. Since that time, he has continued to be an active learner and has acquired a number of prestigious financial designations. He is currently the CEO of a Winnipeg credit union and his expert knowledge in finance, marketing and business development will be an incredible asset that will benefit the people and Government of Manitoba.

His commitment to the community through sport has been primarily in soccer. He has coached soccer for over twelve years on both a recreational and competitive soccer level. He believes it is most important to help each player learn how to improve their skills not only on the field but in life! His coaching philosophy focuses on teamwork first and winning the game is secondary.

He served on the finance committee of the St. Theresa parish as the Chair. He is an active member of the Knights of Columbus and has participated in helping raise funds for the Seven Oaks Hospital and other charitable organizations.

He has been an active supporter of various non-profit organizations and 17 Wing here in Winnipeg. Examples of this include the raising of funds for the Sport program at 17 Wing for a number of years and a fund-raising effort to support Alpha Company in Afghanistan. He called upon a friend who played in the NHL and was able to get autographed original jerseys from the Montreal Canadians, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the NHL All-Star Alumni and Wendell Clark to support the troops!

You will often hear him using the phrase – “You are a friend that I just hadn’t met before today” and he truly means it. He loves to make new friends with all ages. This past spring you would have thoroughly enjoyed seeing him dressed as a larger than life cat reading stories for a group of Grade 1, 2 & 3 students in the Seven Oaks School Division. The questions asked afterwards were answered with humour that was enjoyed by students and staff alike! Darrell believes if you look for the good in a person, it is very easy to find. He looks forward to making many more friends in this election. Take time to say hi or call him anytime at 981-5847 on his cell and he will be ready to serve you now and after the election!

In terms of family, he is blessed with a beautiful wife, Karen, of 21 glorious years and four wonderful children. His children are Brandon, Adam, Ceara and Duane. He feels a balanced family life is the key to true happiness as is a balanced budget!! As you can tell, humour is another one of his qualities. They are the true Manitoban family with a heritage that includes Cree, English, Russian, German, Ukrainian and Polish. He is proud of his multi-cultural makeup of his family and they are representative of the true Canadian family of today!

Running for the Progressive Conservatives has been a life-long goal of his. He wants to give back to the people of Manitoba and help us achieve the potential that is yet to be discovered. With his financial background of 24 years and his commitment to family and community, he looks forward to serving you, the valued constituents of Kildonan and the Province of Manitoba.
