Jewish Renaissance Film Series and Gourmet Dinner Series Collide to Create Delicious Fun.

The Programming Committee at River Heights’ Herzlia-Adas Yeshurun Synagogue is in overdrive. Fresh from a successful Scholar in Residence weekend featuring favourite son Rabbi Yossi Benarroch, the committee chaired by Batya Gall and Rena Elbaze is busy creating a December to remember.

December 4th kicks off our Gourmet Dinner Series with a Caribbean Dinner prepared by local chef Robert Thomas. Come for appies at 6 and dinner at 6:30, and you can bring your own beer, mon! (Just check to be sure it’s kosher).

December 11th is the first of six films in the Jewish Renaissance Film Series: award winning Precious Life. This Israeli documentary chronicles a Palestinian baby in need of a bone marrow transplant during the recent conflicts.

December 21st is Herzlia’s Hip Hop Hannukah Bash featuring delectable Chanukah treats, music, and fun for the entire family.

And in keeping with Winnipeg Jewish tradition, join us on December 25th for our second film in the JRS Film Series: Midnight in Paris, Woody Allen’s magical homage to the City of Lights, followed by Chinese food (what else?). Both movies start at 4 pm and a simultaneous Mishpochah Movie will be offered for children

Please visit www.herzlia.org for complete details, or call the synagogue office at 489 6262 to reserve your place. All events will be at the synagogue, 620 Brock Street.

                                                        presents

6 films that have won a staggering total of 46 Awards. In our first feature Precious Life (2010), journalist Shlomi Eldar followed the extraordinary and complex story of a Palestinian baby who needs a bone marrow transplant during the height of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This movie won the Israeli Ofir (the equivalent of an Oscar) for Best Documentary, and was shown in film festivals around the world. Shlomi Eldar commented: "It’s an honor that an Israeli movie, speaking Hebrew and showing Israel in a different light than what the world usually sees in the media, is being considered by the Americans as something that can cause social change. We’re proud to present this side of Israel, the side of compassion, humanity, and respect for others."
