Re: Build It, And They Won't Come, Jonathan Kay, Dec. 22.
Jonathan Kay identifies three reasons why he thinks the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will not succeed:
(1) museums must be artifactual; (2) the CMHR cannot be comprehensive in its coverage of human rights; and
(3) no one will come to Winnipeg to see it.
About (1): Mr. Kay is simply wrong, and he is clearly oblivious of the emergence over the past two decades of a number of critically praised ideas museums. Amongst the most notable of these are the Museum of Peace in Caen, France, the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles and San Francisco's Exploratorium.
