(February 3, 2012) Winnipeg, MB – Israel Ludwig, President of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, is pleased to announce the creation of a new award in honour of Larry Hurtig z”l, an exceptional individual whose volunteer career in the Jewish community was legendary and whose impact as a role model and supportive lay leader for Jewish professionals in Winnipeg was profound. The Larry Hurtig Memorial Jewish Communal Professional Award was approved unanimously at the January 26, 2012 Federation board meeting.
“In honour of Larry’s life and memory, Federation has established this annual award to recognize a Jewish Communal Professional whose exceptional qualities reflect Larry’s attitude and commitment to our community,” announced Ludwig. “A selection committee is being struck to define the criteria for this award, which we will publish as soon as possible.”
The Hurtig Award will be presented for the first time at Federation’s annual Kavod Evening on May 23, 2012.
