On Feb 2, in response to inquiries from the Winnipeg Jewish Review, Louise Kollinger sent an email stating that " The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg sought permission from the Board of Directors of the Asper Jewish Community Campus, to explore the possible sources of funds to accommodate the construction of new day care and classroom space and report back to the Campus Board in due course. This request was unanimously approved."
In the meantime while the Federation is exploring sources of funds for an addition to the Campus, it is not clear yet where sixty new spaces for the Rady JCC daycare will be.
In response to our inquiries, Gayle Waxman,Exec Director of the Rady JCC wrote in an email last week stating:
The Rady JCC was very pleased to be awarded a grant from the provincial government’s Family Choices Building Fund for $325,000 to develop approximately 76 new child care spaces. We are also pleased that we have already opened 16 of these new spaces this year in the Kaufman Child Care Centre. We are working closely with our partners, the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, Asper Jewish Community Campus and Gray Academy to develop a plan to open the remaining 60 spaces and respond as a community to families' need for quality daycare based on Jewish values in the near future.
