Margaret Shuckett

Margaret Shuckett is the new incoming President of the Winnipeg Chapter of the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University

Aug 13, 2012

Margaret’s connection to the Hebrew University began when her daughters Nicole and Cara attended the Rothberg School for Overseas Studies. The first time Margaret was on campus she found the classes mesmerizing and the scope of academic achievement was mind boggling.

"My favorite place to be "myself" is the view from the Hecht Synagogue on the Mount Scopus Campus. You can see Jerusalem and all the way to the Dead Sea. It represents everything we stand for as Jews – this is the place of discovery, learning, conflicts, challenges, successes and ongoing history. My great great grandparents are buried on the Mount of Olives, a view that can be seen from that high point on campus. There will always be a small part of myself in Jerusalem. I am committed to ensuring that Hebrew University continues to be ranked in the top 100 of the universities in the world as I believe it represents triumph in a country faced with overwhelming challenges."

Margaret was a teacher for the Jewish Board of Education for 8 years and continued teaching for 20 years for the Winnipeg School Division. She served as President of the Hebrew Teachers Association, as well as being Chair of March of the Living and served on the Board of Jewish Child and Family Service. Margaret sits on the National Board of Hebrew University and is the National Missions Chair.

"The Board of Directors is thrilled to welcome Margaret Shuckett as their new chapter President," says Sharon Zalik, Winnipeg Chapter Director, Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University. "We look forward to a continued and productive Hebrew University presence in our community under her guidance and leadership. We thank past President Faith Kaplan for her dedication, hard work, passion and commitment to the Chapter."
