Rady JCC Announces bbyo Connect – New Program for Jewish Teens in Grades Seven & Eight

Opening Program – January 27, 2013

Jan 16, 2012

The Rady JCC is pleased to announce a new initiative especially designed for students in grades 7 and 8. bbyo Connect will offer teens a variety of experiences to help bridge the gap between immediate pre and post Bar/Bat Mitzvah and high school programs. The Rady JCC’s new bbyo Connect program will provide teens in grades 7 and 8 with safe, enriching and fun programming that promotes affiliation with the community. It will be open to all Jewish 7th and 8th graders from all backgrounds and experiences. Activities will take place year-round and will include cultural, social, recreational, wellness and social action programming. At this crucial age, bbyo Connect programs will help link the break between Bar/Bat Mitzvah and high school, giving younger teens an early opportunity to enjoy fulfilling Jewish experiences.

The Rady JCC’s BBYO program is the largest Jewish organization for teens in Winnipeg. Open to students in grades 9-12 it attracts 175 youth on an annual basis. Currently, however there is no formal program of this magnitude for pre-teens in grades 7 and 8.

The purpose of the bbyo Connect program is to provide grades 7 & 8 students with positive experiences in which they can get-together with camp, school, and community friends, as well as meet new ones.
bbyo Connect will make use of the proven growth strategies of BBYO as well as the involvement of BBYO leaders to foster participation of students in grades 7 and 8.

A variety of year-round cultural, social and community service activities are being planned. The Rady JCC is excited to announce that the opening bbyo Connect program will take place on Sunday, January 27 with Bowling and Pizza at Academy Lanes from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Future programs will include a Purim dance and Tikkun Olam initiative. All teens in grades seven and eight are welcome to join. For further information and to find out how your teen can participate please contact Izzy Clark, Rady JCC Youth Coordinator at [email protected].

The Rady JCC gratefully acknowleges the generous support of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
