This afternoon, after more than a year of strategic social media planning, a number of Gray Academy of Jewish Education’s high school students and staff will come together at 12:45pm in the Multi Purpose Room (B210-123 Doncaster St.), as Gray Academy makes its first post to a social media account. The post will be a part of “Gray’s Social Launch”, a student-led social media launch party that will see students as both event planners and social media content creators.
“We didn’t approach our entrance into the social media sphere lightly, and it took a lot of strategic thought and action for us to get to this point,” says Ashley Morgan, Coordinator of Marketing & Communications for the Winnipeg Board of Jewish Education. “We’re excited for our students’ to showcase their hard work and commitment to our social media experience at Gray’s Social Launch.”
Student Council members worked with Morgan to create the event and were at the helm of everything from the event’s conceptualization, to its #socialgray hashtag, and live activity feed, to Gray Academy’s innaugural post; a video created by a student. Soon, they’ll be at the centre of the event’s success, as they engage nearly 200 students and a number of staff as they introduce them to Gray Academy’s newest online outlets.
“We’re proud to be a part of Gray Academy and have been waiting for our school to get a social media page for a long time,” says Josh Lieberman, President of Gray Academy’s Student Council. “So, when Ashley approached us about working together for the school’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube content, we were excited to get started.”
And the launch party is only the beginning of this team effort, as students in a variety of leadership roles will be crucial to the school’s content creation in the future.
“The most exciting and important part of this event and our social media launch, as a whole, is the involvement of the students,” says Morgan. “With our students being the pulse of the school, it only makes sense to us that they be at the centre of today’s announcement and our future postings.”
