HOLD THE DATE: Jewish singles event on April 27, 2013

by Rhonda Spivak March 6, 2013

The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg is coordinating an event for Jewish singles 40 years old and up. This will be the first event in many years for singles in this age group. Federation statistics show that there are over 800 self -identified Jewish singles in this age range and this event is the first of what is hoped to be a regular series of programs for this underserved demographic.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 561 Wellington Crescent, after Shabbat. The admission price will include a jazz trio, fun casino, wine tasting, hot hors d’oeuvres and a lavish sweet table. All Winnipeg Jewish singles 40+ are welcome, and Jewish singles from Grand Forks, Fargo, Regina, Brandon, Saskatoon and Minneapolis will be invited. Tickets are available by pre-purchase only.

“My mandate is to reach out and help Jews connect to something in our community which is meaningful to them, said Rena Elbaze, Federation's Jewish Engagement Specialist. Rena's planning committee includes representatives from Congregation Shaarey Zedek, Congregation Etz Chayim, Herzlia-Adas Yeshurun , Temple Shalom and the Rady JCC, all of whom are the event's sponsors.

Rhonda Prepes, one of the event volunteers, had this to say: “For a long time, I have felt that synagogues and other Jewish organizations should do more to help Jews socialize and network with one another. There has been a void of these types of events for the over 40 crowd in our community for a long time. I am thrilled to finally see a collaboration between organizations to initiate, what should be, an exciting opportunity for our community members."

There is still time to join the planning committee to help out with the final details. Interested volunteers should contact Rena Elbaze at 204-477-7473 or [email protected].
