Tamar Barr Promoted to Assistant Executive Director at the Rady JCC

Press release, March 13, 2013

Gayle Waxman, Executive Director of the Rady Jewish Community Centre is pleased to announce that Tamar Barr has been promoted to Assistant Executive Director at the Rady JCC. Tamar has been employed at the Centre since 1997 (when the doors opened) and has served as the Program Director for the last ten years.

“Tamar has been instrumental in shaping the vibrant cultural life in our community and she will now be able to apply her skills in an even broader context, said Gayle Waxman, Executive Director.

Since joining the JCC, Tamar’s role has grown significantly to include the supervision of staff in a number of program departments including; cultural arts and Jewish life, children and family, camps, special needs, teen/bbyo programming, adult/older adults. Tamar has taken the lead role in growing the Rady JCC’s Cultural Arts and Jewish Life programs including the Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival, Tarbut: Festival of Jewish Culture, Yom Ha’atzmaut and the Israel Pavilion.

In 2002, Tamar was awarded one of twelve graduate school scholarships from the JCCs of North America to attend Yeshiva University and complete her Master of Social Work.

“As a Jewish community professional, I believe it is our mandate to create a comfortable Jewish environment that provides an inclusive atmosphere where individuals have opportunities to express their Jewish identity. Serving the needs of the entire community in a manner consistent with Jewish values is one of the things that I find to be the most appealing dimension of my community work. I am looking forward to growing further in my role at the Rady JCC” shared Tamar Barr.

Tamar recently returned from the JCCs of North America Professional Conference in Orlando where she participated in training with Assistant Executive Directors from all over North America. In her new role, Tamar will continue to oversee the Program Department but also take on some organization wide initiatives.
