Camp Massad Live@60

April 9, 2013

Steven Schipper never had the chance to experience the absolute joy and magic of being a camper or counsellor at Camp Massad of Manitoba. But his daughter Susan did, spending many incomparable and unforgettable summers on staff at the only Hebrew immersion summer camp in all of North America. Which is why Schipper, artistic director of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and an appointee to the Order of Canada, is volunteering his time to direct Massad Live @ 60, an evening of shtick, song and celebration in honour of Camp Massad’s 60th anniversary.
David Gale did get to experience the absolute joy and magic of being a camper, counsellor and program leader at Camp Massad, spending numerous life-altering summers at the camp in the 1960s and 70s.  Which is why Gale, a Gemini award- winning stage and television actor, producer, director and writer is volunteering his time  to host Massad Live @ 60, a one night only performance on May 26, 2013.
Schipper and Gale are just two of the big names that will grace the playbill at the MTC Warehouse Theatre in celebration of Camp Massad, one of Diaspora Jewry’s most enduring and important institutions. Other notable performers include local musical mainstays Kinzey Posen and Shayla Fink, who will lead the house band, SCTV sketch comedian Alan Kliffer, the Alumni Accapella in Action Group, the Camp Massad Alumni Choir, and singing sensation and impresario Elliot Lazar, who is also serving as the show’s co-director. There will also be several surprise performers, from near and far, certain to delight and amuse those in attendance.

Massad Live @ 60 is a celebration of Camp Massad – one of the funniest, shtickiest and most creative and energetic places in the world – but it is a show intended for everyone.  It is a show designed for those who enjoy great performances, great direction, great music, singing, dancing, comedy and community. It is a show for all Winnipeggers, children and adults, Massadniks and non Massadniks. It is a show you won’t want to miss.

Tickets for the event are available from the Camp Massad office, 204-477-7487, or from members of the Camp Massad Board of Directors.
Doors open - 6:30 pmShowtime - 7pm
