“Canadian Hadassah-WIZO Creating Better Tomorrows through 2013 Annual Campaign”

Montréal, QC – Canadian Hadassah-WIZO is appealing to the public and its membership to renew their support of projects supporting Children, Healthcare, and Women through giving to the 2013 Annual Campaign. Launched on March 4, this year’s campaign theme is Creating Better Tomorrows.

“This year’s campaign, Creating Better Tomorrows, is about changing the lives of thousands of Israelis and Canadians by giving them hope, and by making tomorrows possible,” says CHW National President Marla Dan. “The lives of many families throughout Israel and Canada continue to benefit greatly from the unwavering commitment of our members and supporters.”

HELPING CHILDREN

CHW gives at risk youth in Israel a second chance to succeed through the Netanya

Technological High School; the school was created to help youth like Matan. Matan is an 18-year-old Netanya student who is preparing to graduate.

For him, the past year has been spent completing assignments, studying for exams, volunteering, and perfecting his baking skills. That’s because Matan is a student of the Patisserie Program. Next year he will be entering Israel’s army, where he hopes to be assigned to an elite unit.

But Matan's life wasn't always so promising. Three years ago, Matan was a troublemaker, both in school and on the streets. He was quickly running out of options.

Fortunately for Matan, his mother Revital continued to believe in him. She turned to Netanya because she’d heard that year after year, this CHW funded school gives youth the fresh start they desperately need. Revital pushed Matan to enroll, and was relieved when he was accepted.

Today Matan says, “This school saved my life. If it weren’t for Netanya, I would be in jail or worse. My life has been changed, and for this I will be forever grateful.” Matan’s story is just one example of CHW’s work in Canada and Israel that provides Care, Hope, and Worth to children in need. This work is made possible through funds raised by the Annual Campaign. Funds also go to the Hadassim Children and Youth Village, and the Nahalal Youth Village. Many children in these villages come from homes where their parents are unable to care for them.

CHW provides resources that make learning and growing possible. CHW’s six daycare centres offer curious toddlers the essentials needed for their development, ensuring each child has the opportunity to prepare themselves for a bright future. Children attending CHW daycare centres receive care, enrichment classes, hot meals, and exceptional educational opportunities.

For Israeli teenagers CHW supports the Neri Bloomfield Academy of Design and the Netanya Technological High School to give students the opportunity to acquire an education and accredited vocation.

Improving Healthcare
CHW supports innovative medicine and groundbreaking research at Hadassah Hospital through the CHW Fertility Unit. This division of Hadassah’s Gynecology Department is housed in the recently constructed Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower. The unit is designed to empower women by placing their needs at the centre of its services.

Supporting Women
CHW strengthens all aspects of women’s lives, focusing on personal safety, health, and childcare needs at its community and women’s centres. The Calgary Bat-Yam Women’s Centre offers many programs to support seniors and other community members living in the Bat Yam area, and in the same way, the Rose Kanee Community Centre gives residents of the Ramat area of Tel Aviv access to community programs focusing on the arts, dance, and sports.
