Israeli Athlete launches "Bike For the Fight' through N.A. from Winnipeg to Raise Funds for Israel Cancer Research-Reception at Millenium Library Aug 15

by Rhonda J. Prepes, August 1, 2013

The Second annual Bike For the Fight supporting Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) launches August 15th, 2013 from Winnipeg. The campaign is expected to generate in excess of $100,000 – enough for three grants for Israeli scientists to perform one year of Cancer research. BFF is a three month bike trip across Canada and the U.S., increasing awareness and raising money for cancer research in Israel.

Bike For the Fight (BFF) is the brain-child of 25 year old Israeli, Tom Peled who lost his father to a rare form of stomach cancer in 2011. Peled is the friend of Alma Sifrim,  a former Winnipegger who made Aliyah four years ago. Alma’s parents Aida & Ruben Sifrim live in Winnipeg.

“I know my father is watching over me with this project, and knowing the man he was he would say that if through his death and sacrifice other people will be saved from this horrible disease it was worth it. I hope you can find a way to take part in my journey and bring Bike For the Fight into your community,” said Peled

Last year, the four person team biked from Los Angeles to New York between August 1 - October 25, 2012. Peled and his crew raised over $100,000 for the ICRF. It was a huge success and therefore he decided to make another trip this summer, only this time also stopping in Canada.

This year, he will be launching his summer with BFF events in Winnipeg and then beginning his bike ride in Toronto, passing through communities all the way to Montreal and then down the U.S. East coast to Washington, D.C.

During the bike ride, Peled passes through major cities, Jewish communities, and summer camps and tells people his personal story. BFF raises awareness and encourages others to support the cause through donations or by joining Tom on part of his journey.

In addition to being the starting point of his entire trip, ICRF in Winnipeg will be welcoming Tom on Thursday, August 15th for an exclusive reception and various other community-wide events for the three days he is there. Winnipeg was selected as the first city to host Tom because of his personal connection to it and the vibrancy of the local community.

The community is invited to the exclusive reception to launch The Second annual Bike For the Fight on Thursday August 15th, 2013, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Millennium Library, Carol Shields Auditorium on 251 Donald Street, Winnipeg. Refreshments will be served. Kindly reply to [email protected] by Sunday August 11, 2013.

All money collected is donated to the ICRF-the Israel Cancer Research Fund, an organization which sole purpose is to support cancer research in Israel for the benefit of Israel and all mankind. Since 1975 ICRF has donated more than $40 million to support innovative studies by Israeli scientists, with many lifesaving achievements being made in all fields of cancer research.
