JUSTIN TRUDEAU TO SUPPORT LIBERAL CANDIDATE TERRY DUGUID ON SEPTEMBER 26, 5:30 -7:30 P.M.

The Winnipeg-South Federal Liberal Association and candidate Terry Duguid invite the community to a Special Reception with Justin Trudeau, Liberal Member of Parliament for the riding of Papineau Quebec and the eldest son of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

The fund-raising event takes place on September 26, 2010 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Clay Oven, 240-1600 Kenaston Common (Kenaston and McGillivray).

Edward Greenspon, editor in chief of The Globe and Mail, said  of Justin Trudeau in a September 2008 interview, “The day he arrives on Parliament Hill he’ll be viewed as few other rookie MP’s are—as a potential future prime minister—and scrutinized through that lens.”

Duguid, who is a former CEO of the International Centre for Infectious Diseases, and led a Winnipeg bid for an $88 million HIV vaccine facility, will be running in Winnipeg South to unseat Conservative incumbent Rod Bruinuge in the next federal election. He is also former CEO of Gateway North, the marketing agency for the Port of Churchill, and past Chairman of the Manitoba Clean Environment Commission.
          .
In 2005 Duguid was co-chair of the Lake Winnipeg Implementation Committee that authored a plan to save Canada’s “sixth Great Lake”.

He was recently in the Interlake Spectator on August 27, voicing criticism of   "Federal government inaction on the deteriorating condition of the lake", where massive blue green algae blooms recently washed up on popular beaches.

Duguid told the Winnipeg Jewish Review that  in his view a new Lake Winnipeg basin council composed of all the players in the lake’s vast 23,750 square kilometre watershed should be formed to implement an action plan to clean up the world’s 10th largest body of fresh water.

“Not enough is being done for Lake Winnipeg,” he said in an interview.  He referred to the  $18 million allocated by the Federal Conservative Government’s as a ” paltry investment ” to stem the flow of pollution into a lake that generates annual revenues of $100 million from tourism and $20 million from commercial fishing.

“The lake is an important resource for all Manitobans,” said Duguid. “But the federal government is providing only a small amount of money and no leadership. It is an absolute mystery what they are doing with the $18 million.”
