Good Evening,
As many of you are aware the Camp’s opening crew left Winnipeg today to head out to Kenora and open the Camp for the season. Despite snow, various ice patches on the lake and some very cold weather, the crew made it to Town Island safe and sound.
Unfortunately, their first discovery upon walking onto the campsite was seeing our beloved Olam Katan (the small rec hall) collapsed. The heavy snowfall this past winter obviously impacted the building resulting in its demise.
I have attached a few photos for your viewing (before and after). The Katan was one of the few original buildings that predated 1954 and it was widely used by campers and staff. For the past six years, the building has also served as the Playmore Day Camp headquarters. We are saddened to lose this beloved heritage building.
The Camp has contacted its insurance agent and we will address the clean up of debris shortly. Fortunately, the remaining structures all appear to be in good shape and while there is still snow and ice on the island, we are grateful that this misfortunate has not impacted any other areas of Camp.
We will apprise you of any other updates.
Regards,
Brenda
