GWEN SECTER CREATIVE LIVING CENTRE CONTEMPLATES FUTURE-COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT

July 3, 2014

GWEN SECTER CREATIVE LIVING CENTRE CONTEMPLATES FUTURE

Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre continues to be a vibrant drop-in/community Centre for Jewish seniors in Winnipeg. It offers a multitude of programs and activities aimed at promoting and enhancing healthy independent living and overall well-being for older adults. It plays a major role in providing kosher meals on wheels, kosher hospital meals and kosher catering to both the elderly and the community at large.

Social, cultural, educational, fitness and food programs combine to create a ‘home away from home’ atmosphere for all who attend.

Gwen Secter Board of Directors has been working diligently through our strategic planning to look at our various options as the current lease on the building ends May 31, 2016 .

Work with the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, the representative body of the Winnipeg Jewish community, has and is still taking place regarding the needs and provision of community services to Jewish older adults.

In addition, Gwen Secter has investigated various options for the relocation of its operations including amalgamation with other organizations and the acquisition and renovation of new premises. To this end, we have the support of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg assisting in the process.

Co-President Nikki Spigelman said “On a weekly basis the Centre hosts over 150 seniors who are involved in the great variety of activities; in addition to the dozens of people who depend on the kosher meals delivered to their homes by volunteers”

On behalf of the approximately 260 members, the Gwen Secter Board wishes to advise the community about the status of our organization and looks forward to your ongoing support.

It is the board’s intention to keep the membership informed as we develop concrete plans for our future location. We look forward to continuing as a key agency in the community serving Jewish Seniors for many years to come.
