LESLI STERN TROTTIER OF ABSOLUTE DECOR: RENEW YOUR HOME FOR THE NEW YEAR !

by Lesli Stern Trottier, Absolute Decor, ph 204-333-2963, September 21, 2014

I often have requests from clients who want to make improvements to their home without committing to a major investment.  They don't want to endure the full renovation for many reasons whether it be the stress, mess, or simply the cost.

I love these "go to options" to get a refreshed look without a huge effort.

PAINT-It's amazing how a new colour on the walls, with a feature colour to add a punch can change the feel of a room. The right paint colour can immediately warm up or wake up a room. Get your inspiration  from a favourite piece fo art or furniture. Use a deeper or bolder accent colour to offset it, and then watch the transformation !

A LITTLE EXTRAVAGANCE goes a long way. Use a fabulous tile that is on the more expensive side to frame a bathroom mirror or a fireplace. While the tile may be costly per square foot, a six to eight inch thick frame is a small amount of product to deliver the "wow" factor with a manageable pricetag.  Used in a strategic place, it will be front and center in the room.

ONE NEW PIECE - Rearrange your existing furniture, adding or replacing one focus piece.  Try a new light fixture such as a glamourous chandelier; an area rug to soften, add some color and ground the room; a wall hung electric fireplace to add a whole new dimension and physical warmth if desired; a stunning piece of art to draw the eye to, or a piece of furniture such as a table or cabinet that completes the setting.

SMALL ITEMS WITH LARGE IMPACT - replace toss cushions, lamps and/or other decorative pieces with new items that have a more updated stylish look.

WINDOW COVERINGS - new blinds to see the outside world in a different light; to soften and warm up the room, as well as offer privacy if desired; decorative side panels to add color and texture; the bonus is that your furniture and flooring will be protected from UV rays, and heat and/or cold will be kept out or minimized.

It's always best to meet with a decorator or designer when planning any type of renovation work in your home or workspace.  Decide upon a budget and what your priorities are in order to stay within that budget. Most designers will offer an initial consultation up to 2 hours.  If you require more time, or would like them to shop with or for you it can be an hourly rate, or time package that you both agree on.

An experienced eye for color can save you from having to repaint when you don't like your paint selection that you chose on your own, as well as ensure that every aspect flows and works together.

With fall in the air, it's a wonderful time to refresh and renew your living space.  Let the professional take the stress out of the project - just relax and enjoy your fresh, new, beautiful surroundings!

HAVE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR--SHANA TOVA
