“Books for Kids”

Since 2011 National Council of Jewish Women of Canada, Winnipeg Section has donated over 1500 books for their “Books for Kids” project. Books have been donated to two inner city schools, Carpathia and Mulvey School. Rossbrook House, which is an inner city drop in centre has been the recipient of over 1000 books. Rossbrook House creates safe spaces for children, youth and young adults.  The books are distributed by Rossbrook House to pre-school, elementary and junior high kids, who are able to take these books home.  Many children might be able to borrow library books, but do not have books of their own to keep.  The purpose of “Books for Kids” is to ensure that everyone will own books.

If anyone has gently used books they would like to donate, please contact the Council Office.

"Citizenship Court"

For over 25 years National Council of Jewish Women of Canada, Winnipeg Section have hosted citizenship court for new Canadians.  Representing Winnipeg Section were secretary of Winnipeg Section, Heather Gillman, and Sharon Allentuck, board member and president of National Council of Jewish Women Canada. Over 80 people became Canadian Citizens.  After the official ceremony, there was a reception hosted by Winnipeg Section.
