On August 10th, 2017 the Canadian Associates of Ben-Gurion University will hold their second annual charity golf tournament, the Negev Classic at Bel Acres Golf & Country Club in support of autism research. This year, with support from Lisa & Marty Morantz, the event will be named the Nathan Morantz Z”L Memorial Golf Tournament.
All the funds raised at the tournament will be directed towards the critical research being conducted by world renowned scientist Dr. Ilan Dinstein and his team at the BGU autism research center located in Beersheva, Israel. The number of children diagnosed with autism has skyrocketed since the 1980’s to nearly 1 of every 68 in the United States. Autism is rapidly becoming the most prevalent child developmental disorder throughout the world.
To better understand the Autism Spectrum Disorder, the University in partnership with Soroka hospital, created the Autism Research Center. The main goal of the research center is to understand the underlying biology of autism given that autism is not a single disorder, but rather a family of distinct biological disorders that are associated with different genetic and environmental causes and risk factors.
The Nathan Morantz Z”L Memorial Golf Tournament promises to be a day of fun and camaraderie at Bel Acres Golf & Country Club. It is an opportunity to get out and enjoy the beautiful course and golf while supporting BGU’s efforts to combat this disorder and to honour the memory of Nathan Morantz who tragically passed away in 2016. Great food, fun and prizes are promised!!
