Meet Artists FACE to FACE! The WAVE Interlake Artists' Studio Tour June 10 & 11, 2017

May 29, 2017

Have you ever wanted to be able to ask: how did you make that?  The artists of the WAVE Interlake Artists’ Studio Tour, painters, potters, jewellers, photographers and more, welcome you to their studios this weekend, June 10 & 11, to answer that very question.  Meet the artists face to face, surrounded by their tools, inspirations and work and ask any other art questions that occur to you.  Need a little inspiration?

-Ask blacksmith Matt Jenkins of Cloverdale Forge where you can find his latest large-scale installation in Winnipeg (hint:  it’s a popular spot on Canada Day!).

-Ask Carol and Claude Hebert how they got started on their art (hint:  it involves sandblasting wheels for their Jeep).

-Ask portrait artist Julia Penny about her current project that explores immigrants in Canada (hint:  she is looking for subjects and you might be the perfect one!)

-Ask jewellery artisan CJ Tennant about her latest collections and the women who inspired them (hint:  there is a story for every one!)

The WAVE Interlake Artists’ Studio Tour gives you the unique opportunity to see behind the curtain into the spaces in which art happens and to meet the people who create every day.  Now in its 16th year, the WAVE tour itself is in a constant state of invention, largely due to the ever-growing pool of artists who choose to locate their studios and their work in the stunning Interlake landscape.  Visit an old favourite and discover how their work is evolving with new inspirations, methods and materials or head out to meet someone new and enjoy the view along the way on your art road trip!  From the merely curious to the experienced art aficionado, all are welcome!

Pick up the 2017 WAVE Artists’ Studio Tour brochure at all Travel Manitoba locations, McNally Robinson Booksellers, the Gallery Shop at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, DeLuca Fine Wines, any of our fine advertisers and participating artists’ studios.  It includes an easy-to-read map to lead you on your self-directed tour.  You can also find our brochure with map and more information about the WAVE Artists’ Studio Tour and its more than 30 talented artists online, www.watchthewave.ca.

Or just head up or down highways 7, 8 or 9 on your own art adventure through our beautiful Interlake.    Soon enough you will see a blue WAVE sign directing you or a blue WAVE flag that lets you know you have arrived at a WAVE art studio.  Studios are open from 10am – 6pm each day.  Enjoy the ride on your art adventure!
