MESSAGE FROM THE CEO OF THE JEWISH FEDERATION

July 8, 2017

Dear Community Members,

As we welcome July, I would like to wish you all a Happy Canada 150! We are so fortunate to live in such a diverse and accepting democracy which we celebrated this past weekend with the rest of Canada.

I would like to invite you to view the Heritage Centre’s new exhibit on Campus. The display honours the numerous accomplishments and contributions of Jewish Canadians.

Over the summer months the Federation team will continue to work on a variety of projects:

Combined Jewish Appeal

  • Watch for your digital copy of The Case for Giving in the latter part of August. This document contains information on the importance and value of the Combined Jewish Appeal to the Jewish community locally, nationally and internationally (paper copies will be available at the Asper Campus on the main floor, beside the security desk)
  • September 1: We launch the 2017 Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign
  • September 10: Super Sunday Telethon, followed by Rady JCC’s  Super Funday (click here to volunteer)

Community Relations

  • July 18: AMIA Program to commemorate the 1994 bombing of the Jewish Community Centre in Buenos Aires (click to view poster and event details)
  • August 3: Operation Ezra’s  Mount Sinjar Commemoration Program
  • Meetings will continue with representatives from all 3 levels of government providing each with a snapshot of the Jewish community, report on immigration and the successes of our new Canadians,  information on CIJA, on the Canada-Israel relationship, advances in the Israeli technology sector, as well as an update on antisemitism
  • Security: Those organizations who applied for a SIP (Security Infrastructure Program) grant will have received a response from the Federal government by the end of the summer

Community Planning

  • Formation of the action planning committees which will address the top issues as identified in community consultations

Immigration (GrowWinnipeg)

  • Over 5,700 individuals have moved to Winnipeg over the last 16 years and have made important contributions to the Winnipeg community.  We anticipate welcoming  many more visitors over the summer months (click here to learn more about our new Winnipeggers)

Jewish Federation's PJ Library

  • PJ Library reaches out to young families and plays and important role in enhancing Jewish life.  The triennial report results show that 80% of parents said PJ Library gave them more confidence to engage their children in Jewish values, culture, and traditions.  In Winnipeg, 85% of respondents are interested in becoming more engaged. (Click here to view the 2016 triennial study)

Hillel
