Alvin Corne passed away peacefully, surrounded by his devoted family, on April 15, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents Lena and David Corne. His warmth, concern, and generosity will be missed by his wife Sharron Zenith, their children Lindsey Corne, Mimi Ouziel, Stephen Corne, Rhonda Spivak, Shawn Corne and Anna Corne. This loss will also be felt by his seven grandchildren, Zac, Lev, Leah, Sam, Dov, Razi and Zahra. Also left to mourn are his brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Gail Corne, their children, Lisa and Ian Corne, his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen and Leonard Zenith and Mel Zenith. Alvin was the eldest son of two Jewish immigrant parents who came from Russia and England. He grew up in the south end of Winnipeg. Every Friday night, his family, his aunts, uncles and cousins gathered at Bella's, the family matriarch's home in the north end to play cards and exchange weekly news of their families and community. After graduating from Kelvin High School, Alvin entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. He joined his uncle, H. I. Corne at his firm. Soon after, Alvin invited his younger brother, Martin to the firm, which eventually became Corne, Corne, and Corne. Martin became his invaluable colleague and confidant. With boundless energy, and an unwavering sense of ethics, Alvin practiced law for 55 years with an expertise in real estate law. Despite the long hours at his law office, Alvin was devoted to his family. He cherished his wife, Sharron, with whom he raised four children. Together, the family loved sharing times skating at the duck pond, refining skills at the badminton club, riding the roller coaster at the Red River Ex, and spending time at their cottage at Winnipeg Beach. Alvin was an avid sports fan. He was a Bomber fan for over 50 years, and had season tickets for both the Bombers and the Jets. He enjoyed taking family and friends to the games on a regular basis. He demonstrated the same loyalty and persistence as a fan as he did in other aspects of his life, insisting on never leaving a game early, and always staying to the last second. As a result, he was able to witness and enjoy with his children some marvellous comeback victories over the years. In addition to family and sports, music was central to Alvin's life. His mother was a piano teacher and her relentless insistence on piano lessons had a long lasting influence. Although he was a quiet person, when music played Alvin's joie de vivre could not be contained. He would dance to Trini Lopez with wild abandon. In his last years when his illness progressed, the music of Frank Sinatra, Leonard Cohen, and others brought him invaluable solace. Alvin's attitude towards others and life stood out to all, in particular his capacity to treat everyone with equal respect. In his last years, he not only showed great courage and stoicism, but maintained his enthusiasm for people and life. The family is grateful for the devotion of his wonderful caregivers, Lesya, Margarita, Rosalie, Oleg, Fazeica, Aida, Dimitri, Lydia, Hiwot, Moises and Carl.
