National Council of Jewish Women of Canada, Winnipeg Section presented over 200 books that were collected by its members to Carpathia School on December 10. These books are to be distributed to each child.
Sharon Allentuck told the Winnipeg Jewish Review that this “is a new project” and it is the first year this has been done.
Currently there are about 300 members of NCJW Winnipeg Section and Rose Aziman is president, with Judy Lipsey as Treasurer.
Allentuck said that “there are children of various socio-economic backgrounds at [Carpathia] school. It is my understanding that there are many children who live in subsidized housing attending Carpathia School.
She also said that there are no planned programs in the near future. “Winter isn't the best time for our members, many of whom are away. We are having a board meeting at the end of January, so there may be something being planned for the spring.”
