Prof. Wayne Horowitz at the Institute of Archaeology of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is speaking at U of M Sept 13 and Sept 16

[Editor's note: Dr. Haskel J. Greenfield, Distinguished Professor, University of Manitoba Department of Anthropology and Coordinator for Judaic Studies Program, Co-director for Near Eastern and Biblical Archaeology Lab sent the following announcement to the Winnipeg Jewish Review:]

We are having a distinguished visitor at the University of Manitoba for a week beginning September 12. His talks are co-hosted with Judaic Studies, Catholic Studies, and Anthropology.
Everyone is welcome to come and hear him speak. These are two free lectures.
Prof. Wayne Horowitz is Professor of Assyriology at the Institute of Archaeology of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His areas of interest are Cuneiform Astronomy, Mythology, Literature, and Science. Dr. Horowitz received his BA from Brandeis University. He completed his Ph.D. thesis at Birmingham University. Dr. Horowitz lectures at the Rothberg School for Overseas Students in the Department of Assyriology and is leading a team making available in publication the decipherment of a Law code fragment (18th-17th century B.C.E.), the first found in Israel that shows features similar to the law code of Hammurabi.

In recent years Professor Horowitz has been a member of the Ethno-Astronomy Project of the Gwich'in Tribal Council, Department of Cultural Heritage, working on recovering the traditional view of the sky of the Gwich'in First Nation in Canada's Northwest Territories. In this talk, Professor Horowitz will share what he has learned as a student of the world of the Bible and Ancient Near East in northernmost Canada.
