A MESSAGE FROM PARTNERS FOR HOME ON HONORING OUR PARENTS, CARING FOR LOVED ONES AND KEEPING FAMILIES UNITED IN THEIR COMMUNITY.

In 2007 our father started showing signs of a movement disorder. We noticed his mobility and muscle strength started to decline. What started as a gradual loss of strength in his arms, led to balance and mobility degradation and eventually impacting his whole body.

It turned out that our dad had been impacted by what seems to be a rare form of ALS. After going through years of grievance and denial, and being confronted with life changing decisions, we found our moment of acceptance and our own experience inspired us to create Partners for Home.

Partners for Home is a home-care services company born in Winnipeg and offering services in MB , ON and BC. From the very beginning it was clear to us that we would do everything possible to honor our dad and keep him safely at home and united with our family and engaged in our community. And that’s the foundation that Partners for Home is built upon.

In the early stages of our journey our dad received care directly from WRHA at home, for maybe a maximum of 20 minutes per day, each day at a different time and with a different caregiver. Our needs started to outgrow the service and that’s when we became familiar with WRHA’s Self / Family Managed Home Care (SFMC) program.

The SFMC program allows Manitoban’s to be in charge of their care and work with a private agency like Partners for Home to build a truly customized level of service specific to their individual needs. For our family, this meant our father could be helped out of bed at the time he wanted to be moved instead of waiting sometimes for hours for someone to arrive. Rather than having to deal with new people coming to our house almost every day, he could rely on the same Care Giver. This resulted in a less stressful environment for both our father and the Care Givers, as he no longer needs to retrain a new worker each and every day on how to move him. In addition, our father can have a shower as often as he wants, and is no longer limited to just one per week, which just was not enough. In addition, moving to the Self / Family Managed Home Care program, has enabled our family to develop meaningful relationships with the Care Givers that serve our family.

Over the years as we speak with friends who are experiencing similar issues within their family, we have realized we are not alone. Many are unaware about the options and services available. This coupled with the distress that can accompany a family member trying to provide care to a loved one without the support of a professional team, can lead family members to believe there is no viable option to keep their loved ones at home.

At Partners for Home, we have the expertise, the values, commitment to quality necessary and will use our personal experience to help guide you and your family to enable you and your loved ones to remain at home, united with family. Our team looks forward to speaking to you about how we can become your trusted Home Care Partner. We encourage you to visit our website www.partnersforhome.ca to learn more about us.
