Mezzo Homes's Granny Suites Are Very Attractive for Seniors or As Self Isolation Units In light of the Coronavirus Pandemic

by Kasey Hacking, May 19, 2020

Mezzo Homes has designed a Garden Suite (known as a Granny Suite) that can act as a unit for seniors or a self isolation unit, which many will find very attractive especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. These Granny Suites have been a game changer throughout Canada, the U.S, and many other parts of the world for seniors who want to maintain their independence while staying close to their family. These small homes can be built or installed in the back or side yard of an already existing single-family home.

As the coronavirus pandemic rages on,  many seniors who are living in seniors housing, apartments and condos are experiencing a strong sense of fear and discomfort as there are many shared common areas, making them fearful of contracting Covid-19.  Mezzo Homes's Granny Suites which are single standalone units really can alleviate some of the stress and worry seniors are experiencing, since seniors who live in a Granny Suite will not have to live with shared common areas. Each Granny Suite has its own kitchen, living space, bedroom, bathroom and utility area. While small in square footage these homes, which cost only $99,900 are actually quite roomy inside with a condo feel (but no fees!). While the province has begun to loosen its reigns on self isolation, many seniors are not going  to go to a patio restaurant or to get a haircut - it’s just not worth the risk. While the pandemic will likely last for months and months to come (until a vaccine is found), seniors can be comfortable living in a self contained Granny Suite. These homes have been effectively designed to have a very short turnaround time in as little as 4 weeks from order & build to delivery.

If you have ever  looked at Mezzo Homes's  two bedroom homes you will know Mezzo always make the most out of each square foot. The Mezzo  Garden ( Granny) Suites which are  285 or 379 square foot homes are innovative, efficient, and magnificent! The Mezzo Garden (Granny) Suite is easily moved with all of the amenities cleverly designed for minimalist luxury. Pine and birch interior finishes, custom cabinet ties, custom built in bed and desk, efficient and bright LED lighting throughout, a very surprising amount of storage, and all appliances are included. The Suite is built to last with maintenance free composite and steel exterior. Spray foam insulation in the walls, floors, and ceiling create an air-tight seal. Heating and cooling is by efficient heat pump and standard HRV for home air quality. The Suite is easy to hook up to services, deliver and place on  a foundation or pad. And while these Suites have gotten the name Granny Suite for a reason, parents can have their young adult university students live in one of these suites to be close to home, keep the bills low, while still enabling the young adult to get the feel of owning their own place. Sometimes beautiful things come in smaller packages! And it is very heartening to see so many people in our community steering towards minimalism and reduced footprint living.

Additionally, it is worth noting that Mezzo Homes has already had interest in their Garden (Granny) Suites from Indigenous Communities who specifically want to provide homes designed for quarantine /self-isolation during the covid 19 pandemic.

Mezzo Homes is known for creating high quality homes with a luxury feel which homeowners on a conservative budget can afford. ( Mezzo has had a had a ton of success with its 2 bedroom homes in Selkirk with only 2  out of 16 homes left).
