(January 31, 2012) Israel Ludwig, President of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, is pleased to announce that the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg’s Planning Committee unanimously approved a motion to accept Chabad-Lubavitch’s Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) as a Partner Agency at its meeting of Wednesday, January 25th, 2012. The motion was proposed by Federation president Israel Ludwig, and seconded by Combined Jewish Appeal co-chair Howard Morry.
Based on the criteria for Partner Agencies approved in 2003, the committee agreed that JLI provides a service that promotes survival and growth of the community, and engages a diverse population. The committee believes that JLI fills a need in the community as evidenced by the number and diversity of attendees, and the depth and variety of the programs it offers at Chabad’s new Jewish Learning Centre in River Heights.
Ivy Kopstein, Chair of the Community Planning Committee, brought the recommendation forward at the Federation board meeting on January 26th, 2012, where it was approved unanimously. The Community Planning Committee sees this as an opportunity to add a strong program as a partner agency and increase the breadth of Federation partnerships, and was pleased that the JLI department of the Jewish Learning Centre wishes to be seen as an organization integrated into the larger Jewish community and a partner with Federation in educating and engaging Jews in Jewish life.
