1. There was NEVER a state or entity called Palestine until after 1948.
2. The name derives from the Philistines who lived around the Jordan River in Roman times.
3. In 1917, the area now known as Jordan and Israel was called the British Mandate of Palestine after the Roman name Palestina.
4. The land used to belong to the Ottoman Empire (Turkey).
5. Turks are neither Arabs nor Palestinians.
6. There was NEVER an Arab group called Palestinians until 1964 – a name coined by the PLO.
