Annual B’nai Brith Baseball Program Reaches Out to all of Winnipeg Community - 4th ANNUAL AFTERNOON WITH THE GOLDEYES – AUGUST 19, 2012

Winnipeg – B’nai Brith in Winnipeg has donated over 1,200 ticket packages to a Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball game against the St. Paul Saints as part of “B’nai Brith’s 4th annual Afternoon with the Goldeyes”, which will be held on Sunday, August 19th.
The “Afternoon with the Goldeyes” project was founded in Winnipeg by Earl Barish, Chair of the Executive of B’nai Brith Canada. B’nai Brith offers free Goldeyes Ticket Packages to organizations that service different needs in the community, including Jewish Child & Family Services, Shalom Residences, Big Brothers and Sisters, CancerCare, Ronald MacDonald House and MacDonald Youth Services. Included with the ticket to the Goldeyes game is a food voucher for lunch, a B’nai Brith commemorative t-shirt and a Goldeyes souvenir.
B’nai Brith purchases the ticket packages with the help of various sponsors and then donates these packages to agencies that wish to bring recipients of their services to the game.
Thanks to an expanded fundraising campaign, B’nai Brith will distribute over 1,200 ticket packages this year to 36 community service organizations. This has increased from the 500 in the first year.
“It’s a very simple program, but a very well received one. It is that ‘wonderful feeling’ type of program in the community”, Barish said. He noted that many of the people who will attend the event have never been to a baseball game. Barish added that “Afternoon with the Goldeyes” is also one of several programs that allow B’nai Brith in Winnipeg to extend its services beyond the city’s Jewish population and contribute to the community at large.
“B’nai Brith’s basic and original concept was service to the community – People Helping People,” he said. “We have some very active interfaith groups at work…(because) it’s important for B’nai Brith to make an impact in every aspect possible.”
“B’nai Brith in Winnipeg is also selling up to 100 discounted ticket packages to individuals on B’nai Brith’s emailing list,” he said. According to Barish, this will allow members of the Jewish and general community, who are involved with B’nai Brith in other programs to experience this program as well.
“I’d like to encourage other people who are part of what we do to see what we’re doing,” he said. “It’s a way for them to see B’nai Brith in action and to enhance B’nai Brith’s role and image in the community.”

The ticket packages ticket, a $30 value, are selling for $15. Email [email protected] or call 204-837-8687 to order.
