On Wednesday, June 20^th, 2012, Harry passed away peacefully in Winnipeg, in his 105^th year, just two weeks shy of his 106^th birthday. He was predeceased by his loving wife Manya (Minnie) Zitzerman and he is dearly missed by his beloved son Saul Zitzerman, his niece Janice Dietch, his grandchildren Mira Bedder and David Zitzerman (and David’s wife Karen Friedman) of Toronto and his great-grandchildren, Erin, Leah, Daniel, Matthew, and Hannah. Born in 1906 in Russia, Harry immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where he cut fur during his working life and cheered on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. When asked about the keys to his tremendous longevity, Harry once said that it was primarily due to three factors: eating right and exercising, having a great sense of humour and running, not walking, when the Cossacks entered the village. Our sincere thanks to the staff at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre for all of their kindness and support. A graveside memorial service was held at Rosh Pina Memorial Park in Winnipeg on Sunday June 24^th. If desired, donations can be made to the Simkin Centre, the Jewish Foundation of Maitoba or to the charity of choice.
