Rabbi Green Leads Meditation for Peace at Shaarey Zedek During International Peace Day

by Matthew Ostrove, October 3, 2012

This international peace day I went to the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue to participate in an interfaith peace gathering amongst all religions. There were people from all different professions, but many had medical backgrounds. Rabbi Green explained that if we hate we inevitably will hate ourselves and that spreading love is ultimately our fate if we are to bring peace on this earth in which we live. If we continue to pray for the welfare of our enemies the Meshiach will never bless our earth and bring about the messianic era which we hope ultimately to usher into this world..

International peace day was developed by the United Nations resolution in 1981 and celebrated on September 21st in 1982 :

“Peace Day should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples…This day will serve as a reminder to all peoples that our organization, with all its limitations, is a living instrument in the service of peace and should serve all of us here within the organization as a constantly pealing bell reminding us that our permanent commitment, above all interests or differences of any kind, is to peace.”

Since its inception, Peace Day has marked our personal and planetary progress toward peace. It has grown to include millions of people in all parts of the world, and each year events are organized to commemorate and celebrate this day. Events range in scale from private gatherings to public concerts and forums where hundreds of thousands of people participate

Rabbi Green led us in a peaceful chant where we uttered the word " Shalom" over and over again until we were delicately guided into a state of bliss where I began to see the vivid colour blue. Chazan Anibal Mass then sent me a message saying what exactly the colour I saw meant.

The colour blue represents the Sephirah of Chochmah (Wisdom). It represents the first impulse to Create as it arose in the Creator. It is "primordial Torah," absolute and Divine wisdom, the flash of intuition or inspiration that precedes conscious thought.

In another sense, Chochmah is the "sperm" that will impregnate Binah (Understanding) as the first step in the Creative process. (One aspect of the Infinitude is that God, although without gender, encompasses both male and female attributes.)

The name of God associated with Cochmah is Yah or the yod in the Tetragrammaton. The body part associated with Chochmah is the right hemisphere of the brain. Chochmah's colour is blue.

After the mediation we go together and particiapnts shared with eachother other colours that they saw, some seeing shades of purple and white which are all different colours of the Sephirot

Throughout schools in the United Stated meditation is working wonders to create peaceful classrooms.

Transcendental Meditation: The Quiet Time Program.

Learning readiness is at the core of any comprehensive program for raising student performance. By developing the full brain, reducing the acute stresses that undermine learning and health, and improving the overall environment of the schools, the Quiet Time Program is a practical, highly effective approach to promoting learning readiness among students and thereby markedly improving their academic performance and success in life.

The Quiet Time Program with the Transcendental Meditation technique has already been incorporated into hundreds of public, charter, and private schools throughout the United States and around the world, supported by an extensive body of independent research verifying its benefits. Students participating in Quiet Time score higher on intelligence tests, close the achievement gap, improve test scores, and have higher graduation rates compared to students in control groups.

Meditating students also show reduced stress levels, anxiety, depression, violence, and substance abuse. This results in reduced absenteeism, dropout rates, suspensions, and expulsions. Transcendental Meditation is a simple, easily learned technique, practiced by students and teachers for 10 to 20 minutes twice daily, sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. The technique does not involve any religion, philosophy, or change in lifestyle.

If you are interested in learning more about Transcendental Meditation you can contact Chaya Green, Rabbi Green's spouse, and take one of her introduction classes.
We have no other choice to love if we are to create peace in our world.
