Rady JCC Takes February To Heart

Winnipeg, MB – February is Heart Health month and the Rady Jewish Community Centre is bringing awareness to the importance of heart health.  According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, heart disease and stroke is a leading cause of death in Canada, taking the lives of thousands of Canadians before their time. Almost 70,000 Canadians die each year from heart disease and stroke and 90% of us have at least one risk factor – a risk factor that can lead to early onset of these deadly diseases.

“Heart disease is the number one cause of death in Manitoba, but in many cases it is preventable through lifestyle modification,” adds Mark Spencer, Director of Fitness for the Rady JCC. “Not only are these changes good for your heart, but they also benefit your overall health.”

“We are inviting everyone to join us this month at the Rady JCC as we show how leading an active life is easy and positively impacts heart health,” shares Gayle Waxman, Rady JCC Executive Director.  “Our team has put together a great selection of educational and fun activities throughout February that focus on how active living and healthy eating benefit everyone in the family.  We want to bring attention to the idea that heart health is a family affair.”

In February, members and staff are being encouraged to wear red all month long to when they come to the Rady JCC to help highlight the importance of a healthy heart.  Here is a preview of other upcoming events and activities devoted to heart health and designed for all ages and abilities:
