President Obama Received Demonstration of Hebrew U developed Life Saving Technology

posted March 21, 2013

Obama and MobileyeJerusalem - March 21, 2013 - 1.2 million people are killed each year in car accidents around the world' and 20-50 million sustain heavy injuries. In America alone 33,000 people die each year on the road, averaging a person every 15 minutes.

Mobileye, the world leader in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), founded following developments made by Prof. Amnon Shashua of the Hebrew University’s Rachel and Selim Benin School of Computer Science and Engineering, presented today (Thursday) its driver safety technology to The President of The United States, Barack Obama, during his visit to Israel.

"We are honored to be presenting Mobileye's life saving technology to President Obama," said Prof. Amnon Shashua, Chairman of Mobileye's Board. "This is a unique opportunity to display the range of safety applications offered by our monocular vision system, powered by Mobileye's System-on-Chip (EyeQ). We are proud to have been chosen to represent Israeli ingenuity and innovation."

While current regulations are fully covered by Mobileye's existing solutions, the Mobileye team is hard at work on the next generation of products. Among these are General Object Detection, 3D World Representation Based on Motion, Animal Detection, Road Profile and Traffic Light Recognition - to name just a few. Another significant application of the existing technologies is Self-Driving technology - to be unveiled in the summer of 2013. It is expected that by the close of the decade, Mobileye's solutions will become the standard in almost every vehicle as the primary safety equipment. This will dramatically reduce the number of fatalities in car accidents and as such, is set to become the number one factor in saving lives in the world.

Mobileye is a world leader in the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The company’s unique monocular vision-based platform, driven by its proprietary chipset and algorithms, works as a third eye to mitigate and reduce the risk of collision. Mobileye was founded on the basis of a patented technology which was invented by Prof. Amnon Shashua and commercialized by Yissum, the university’s technology transfer company, under a dedicated start-up formation track. Headquartered in The Netherlands, Mobileye has offices in the United States, Israel, Cyprus and Japan.
