National Council of Jewish Women Canada, Winnipeg Section hosted citizenship court on Wednesday, April 24 at Via Rail Station.
When NCJW was established over 115 years ago one of Council’s functions as a voluntary organization was to help immigrants and refuges with English classes, and to aid in their adjustment to Canadian society. Council’s work with seniors and children continue to this day, on local, national and international levels.
Carolina Fridman, a board member, brought greetings on behalf of National Council. She welcomed the 86 new Canadians from 25 different countries. Carolina spoke about her experience of becoming a Canadian citizen in 2001.
A reception hosted by Winnipeg Section followed the official ceremony. Members who attended or baked were: Heather Gillman, Judy Lipsey, Rose Aziman, Michelle Glass, Sharon Allentuck, Yhetta Gold, Marjorie Blankstein, Reva Craven, Carolina Fridman, Kathy Cobor, Lil Hirt, Cindy Lazar, Shayna Shulman and Faye Rosenberg Cohen.
