Executive Director, Sharon Zalik and her assistant Leora Solomon who work in the Canadian Friends of Hebrew University Office on Corydon now have a new roomate.
The roommate is a smooth talking guy with a slight Spanish accent, Ariel Karabelnicoff, (whose daughter Shaked is a contributor to the WJR). Karabelnicoff sells State of Israel Bonds (he can sell them in his sleep!) and he's now sharing office space with the Winnipeg Chapter of Canadian Friends of Hebrew U.
"It's a good match, and we didn't even need a matchmaker," says a smiling Zalik, who notes that "This is a wonderful arrangement for CFHU and State of Israel bonds as we've worked well together in the past and are looking forward to doing so in thefuture."
Zalik says that "We are always looking to maximize our donors' charitable dollars. By having Ariel move in we are not only getting good company but we are reducing our office expenses."
Zalik works full time and her assistant Leora works part time. "We are running a lean machine at Hebrew U in order to keep our overhead low and ensure that the bulk of the money we raise is sent to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem."
She adds"Ariel needed a bigger office than his previous one, and this arrangement is beneficial to both of us," says Zalik.
When asked if she planned anything special for Karabelnicoff's arrival, Zalik told the WJR, "I dusted up the place a little."
The office has become very multilingual. "All together we speak English, Hebrew, Yiddish and Spanish," she chuckles.
For the last number of years Karabelnicoff has been working out of the offices of the Jewish National Fund on Grant and Kenaston.
