Our community needs daycare, and with the collapse of the Rady JCC-Herzlia synagogue deal, it doesn't appear that anyone has answers as to where the daycare could be housed.
 
We have a Jewish community that for the last three years has been unable to find daycare for itself--it's like the stories you read about Chelm.
 
So, I am going to put forward my own solution. How about letting Barb, Pam, Lisa and Ed run the daycare. Desserts Plus Daycare--

There are a few very obvious advantages to the suggestion:
 
Firstly, there is a kosher kitchen ON SITE! 
 
It has its own parking lot--easy access, and a central location on the border of River Heights and Tuxedo.
 
It has a cozy, hamish and Jewish environment and not only that, it would be fun for the kids. Every time the children were in there, they'd end up bumping into people they know!!! (It always happens to me when I am there).
 
If you sent your child there every morning, you' feel rest assured that your toddler wouldn't go hungry-- a large selection of snack foods would always be available (enough so that the kids would probably have no problem going for a nice little nap after snack).

And imagine how fun it would be to choose options for HOT LUNCH at Barb and Ed's?
 
Pam could teach the kids how to make soup--- (I've gone through one of her soup books with a fine tooth comb : there's enough recipes in there to keep pre-schoolers busy for sure until they could enroll in kindergarten. To be cost-effective, the kids could make the soups on the watery-side. Pam might even consider a soup A.P. program --she could call it S.A.P (?!.).

In fact, the children might  be able to help Pam edit her next book when the time comes.
 
Barb's always very friendly whenever I'm in there--I'm sure she'd be able to manage an extra 60-70 kids running around between the isles.

Ed could have the kids come visit him up at the counter near the cash register area--he could teach them the rules regarding accepting visa, mastercard, debit and cash.

Barb knows some Yiddish--she could teach the kids the rules about not mixing “kasha mit borscht.”

The kids would really get a sense of Jewish tradition.

There's some potential upside for Desserts Plus---chances are parents would buy lots of Desserts Plus items when they went to drop off their kids every morning and take them home in the evening.

It would appear to be a win-win situation.

In other words, the time may have come for the the government to allocate daycare spots to Desserts Plus.

P.S. After sending the Reiss family a draft of this article, Pam Reiss noted that "Lisa has actually taught daycare/preschool."

Go figure- My gut instincts were correct, afterall.
