JEWISH NATIONAL FUND ANNOUNCES HIGH HOLIDAY APPEAL PROJECT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, AUGUST 16, 2013

The Jewish National Fund of Canada – Manitoba/Saskatchewan Regional Branch is pleased to announce that this year's High Holiday Appeal Campaign will support the Ayalon Trail in Canada-Ayalon Park in Israel.

“The Ayalon Trail is a hiking and biking trail that begins at the meeting point with the main road, in the upper section of the Valley of the Springs,” said the branch’s Executive Director, Rob Berkowits, “KKL-JNF will develop this 8 km trail and diversify the park's options for leisure and outdoor recreation and ensure the preservation of its unique natural and historic features.”

The trail will afford the visitor a magnificent combination of varied historical remains and striking scenic views, as well as an unforgettable experience in nature. KKL-JNF, with the support of JNF Canada, cultivated the site and developed it for outdoor recreation. Scenic roads traverse the region and invite visitors on foot, bike and cars to travel through the park and visit its many treasures among them: an aqueduct, ancient burial caves, concealed underground tunnels, a Crusader's Castle and remains of ancient churches. The park is at its best during the winter flowering season, particularly on Tu B’Shevat when the abundant almond trees are in full bloom.

“Pledges made to support this year’s High Holiday Appeal will help bring visitors closer to nature, scenic views, historical remains and old water systems that nourished communities and farms throughout history,” added Berkowits, “The perfect combination of heritage and nature in one of the major sites in Jewish history.”

Founded in 1901, the Jewish National Fund has evolved into a global environment leader, planting over 240 million trees, constructing more than 250 reservoirs & dams and developing over 250,000 acres of land while creating more than 1000 parks and providing stable infrastructure for over 1000 communities.
