Rady JCC Hands Out Volunteer Service Awards

January 5, 2014

The Rady Jewish Community Centre honoured its annual Ken H. Kronson Kehilla Award winners at its Annual General Meeting on December 16, 2013.

Rady JCC’s Ken H. Kronson Kehilla Awards are given annually to individuals who demonstrate outstanding volunteer contributions and commitment to the Rady JCC and the community. The award is named in honour of Ken Kronson, who was the driving force behind the Rady JCC’s “Y” Sports Dinner for 40 years as chairperson.

“This year’s recipients truly reflect the values that Ken exhibited throughout the many years he was a Rady volunteer,” says Gayle Waxman, Rady JCC Executive Director. “The Jewish value of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) reflects their on-going commitment and outstanding efforts in support of the mission and vision of the Rady JCC.”

Please join us in wishing Mazel Tov to the 2013 Ken H. Kronson Kehilla Award Winners:

Marie Barrett (Category: Folklorama)

Marie’s tireless efforts and dedication to the Rady JCC’s annual Folklorama pavilion, Shalom Square, have not gone unnoticed. She has been a valuable member of the food service team, integral to the event’s success.

Arthur Blankstein & Paula Parks (Culture)

Arthur and Paula did a marvelous job co-chairing the 21st World Conference of GLBT (Gay, Lesbian Bisexual, Transgendered) Jews held this past July 2013, which was the first ever hosted in Canada. Both were instrumental in the success of this meaningful conference, and have given countless more hours to Rady JCC’s GLBT program, Anakhnu.

Yoni Coodin (Youth)

Yoni has been an integral contribution to Rady JCC’s BBYO youth program the last four years. Yoni has shown leadership throughout and been heavily involved in Jewish content programming.

Norm Glass (Sports Dinner)

Norm is being recognized for his volunteerism with Rady JCC’s perennially successful “Y” Sports Dinner, taking a lead role in promotion, auction prize accruement and programming input.

Rivka Green (Active Living for Older Adults)

Rivka has been a committed volunteer with our Active Living for Older Adults program. Rivka has been an integral part of the recently launched Intergenerational program between the Active Living for Older Adults and Kaufman Child Care Centre, bringing together multiple generations for learning opportunities.

David Mellish (Fitness)

David has taken a lead role with Rady JCC’s men’s exercise class (“Ben’s Group”) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. David shows up week after week to work out and kibbitz with the other members, and has recently started leading the group, encouraging both exercise and fun.

Fay Sasson (Kaufman Child Care Centre)

Fay has dedicated countless volunteer hours in the daycare, expertly engaging children of all ages, from infant to preschool. She chooses reading opportunities that reflect strong Jewish values and reads them in a style that interests all children.

Elinor Schwartzman (Special Needs)

Elinor has been a committed volunteer with “Fun and Fitness with Friends” for the last two years, providing ongoing support with both general group activities and one-on-one sessions with our special needs participants.

The Rady JCC strives to build and sustain an enriched, caring and connected community ensuring a vibrant Jewish future in Winnipeg. Its mission as a not-for-profit community agency is focused on providing a broad range of programs and services for all age groups to meet the diverse needs of members, the Jewish community, and the community-at-large. Programs include cultural, social, educational, health, fitness, and recreational for all age groups, from infant to older adult.

Through its wide array of programs, the Rady JCC strengthens the individual, the family, and the community. Membership is open to all, and services are offered to both the Jewish and general communities.
