Editor,
You are correct in your assertion that Minyanim of late have become undependable in many Winnipeg synagogues.
The exception to this rule is Congregation Shaarey Zedek, where one can count on an egalitarian Minyan, two times a day, 365 days a year, with 99% dependability.
Whether one is in mourning, or observing Yahrtzeit, or simply in need of some time alone with the Creator, in the case of the Shaarey Zedek Minyan, there is no need to call ahead or make special arrangements with friends or family.
Led by Shammes Bill Weissmann, the Shaarey Zedek Minyan is always there: weekends and civic holidays at 9 AM and 6 PM; and weekdays at 7:30 AM and 6 PM, with the exception of Friday evening, when services begin at 5:30 PM.
I would suggest that Shaarey Zedek’s central location on Wellington Crescent at the Maryland bridge already makes it the ideal place in town for people to gather for morning and evening prayers on a daily basis.
