Bob Bossin’s Davy the Punk
The very Jewish story of my father’s life in the gambling business
July 16 – 27 at Prairie Theatre Exchange

Davy the Punk is Bob Bossin’s new one-man musical about his father, whose life, according to Andreas Schroeder, is “so fascinating, hilarious and outrageous, it’s worthy of a Mordecai Richler novel.” The show comes to Prairie Theatre Exchange’s Colin Jackson Studio for a dozen performances, July 16 to 27 during the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.

Davy Bossin, Bob's father, was born in 1905. Finding his way blocked by the rampant anti-semitism of the times, Davy blazed his own path in a new, vibrant, international industry – gambling. There he matched wits with cops and mobsters, grifters and grafters, mensches and gonifs. His court cases set precedents that affect us to this day.

Davy’s son Bob grew up to found Stringband, to pioneer Canadian indie music, and to write songs Pete Seeger praised as “funny, informative and inspiring at the same time.”

Now Bossin Jr. tells Bossin Sr.’s story in a Yiddish- sprinkled performance that is, according to Michael Wex, author of Born to Kvetch, “Damon Runyon meets Sholem Aleichem … a touching and very funny portrait of a part of Jewish Canada that too many people like to pretend wasn't there.”
