CAPTAIN BARRY LEIPSIC: THE SEXIEST JEW OF WINNIPEG

by Rhonda Spivak ,September 23, 2014

This past June in order to comply with Canada's new anti-spam law,  the Winnipeg Jewish Review sent out e-blasts asking subscribers to provide written consent to continue receiving the publication.

In one of those emails, I asked subscribers who the sexiest Jew in Winnipeg was.

I received one noteworthy response, from Peter Leipsic who wrote to me that his father Captain Barry Leipsic was the sexiest Jew in Winnipeg.

There are two black and white photos that Peter forwarded to me of his father, which you can see now posted, and I am declaring Captain Barry Leipsic the WJR's choice for  the Sexiest Jew of Winnipeg.

The first photo is of a dashingly handsome Barry Leipsic before he lost an eye in World War II. Barry was stationed in England with the Fort Garry Horse Tank Regiment, and during World War II was in charge of 19 tanks. His regiment was in battle in Holland where he was hit in the head by machine gun fire. The bullet passed through his left eye coming out his right ear.

The second photo is here is one following the loss of his eye, whereupon Barry had a glass eye. (It is of course impossible to tell this in the photo.)

Barry met his first wife Yvonne Dollar, a Viennese refugee, in London. They married in 1943, having two boys Peter and Richard Leipsic.

Barry spent his last 10 years with his second wife June Falkner Black.
