TAZ STUART'S TOP PRIORITIES FOR RIVER HEIGHTS WARD-STUART RUNS FOR CITY COUNCIL

by Taz Stuart, October 1, 2014

Taz Stuart’s Top Priorities for your River Heights – Fort Garry Ward include:

To represent and proudly make the daily services that the City of Winnipeg residents expect to receive for their tax dollars even better as your new Councillor. Here are some of my objectives.

Improved Focus on the Ward – By listening to my constituents and thoughtfully forwarding your sentiments  I will diligently work with all members of Council and the Mayor to improve the River Heights – Fort Garry Ward and the quality of life for its residents; I will serve you and the City of Winnipeg as a whole; and,

Widen Pembina Underpass - To widen the Pembina Underpass to three (3) lanes going north no matter what the end result of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) becomes. Funding would be through the proposed funding model to pay for the widening within the first 3 years of the City Bond offering*;

Widen Kenaston - To widen Kenaston to three (3) lanes in both directions from Taylor Ave to Academy Road. This will be based on lobbying and pressuring the Federal Government to move forward to release the small portions of land required from the Kapyong Barracks, and assuming that all legal issues are resolved to better increase the flow of people and goods through our Ward. This will be funded through the proposed funding model pay for the widening within the first 3 years*;

Waverly Traffic - To investigate the cost of an overpass or underpass at the Waverley St rail road tracks and through the proposed funding model, pay for the cost of the building it within the first 3 years*;

Expansion of Bus Rapid Transit - To re-assess the BRT route and model to serve all residents of the City of Winnipeg. I would propose that all routes be worked on at the same time so all residents receive the benefits of BRT at the same time. This will be funded through the proposed funding model and started within the first 3 years offering the City Bonds*;

Environmental Improvements - Increase the funding of the protection, monitoring and control of local and invasive species and diseases that are affecting the overall urban forest in Winnipeg which is especially severe in the RH-FG Ward;

Improve Emergency Access - To review the effect of the traffic circle installations that may be causing issues for Fire, Police and Ambulance services in getting to locations within our Ward;

An announcement on my proposal to fund these projects will come out in the next few weeks.
