Congratulations to new Government of Canada

Federation, along with CIJA, offered a hearty Mazel Tov to our new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and to all successful MP’s. Of note, Jewish community member Jim Carr won the Winnipeg South Centre seat and has been appointed Minister of Natural Resources. Maryann Mihychuk, newly elected MP for Winnipeg North, has been appointed Minister of Employment, Workforce Development & Labour.

Mission to Israel

Twenty Winnipeggers have just returned from the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg Mission to Israel. The mission gives community members an insider's view of Israel through interaction with Israelis in a wide range of settings. Watch for a complete report in the coming weeks.

Jewish Community Honours Filipino Community for Kristallnacht Program

On Monday, November 9, 2015 at 7:00pm in the Berney Theatre, the Jewish community will honour the Filipino community. The Philippine-Jewish Connection program will feature “Rescue in the Philippines”, how President Manuel Quezon, of the Philippines, Paul McNutt, US High Commissioner, Army Colonel Dwight D. Eisenhower and the Frieder brothers - Jewish cigar makers in Manilla - helped 1,200 Jews escape to the Philippines. The program is co-chaired by Larry Vickar and Rod Cantiveros, well known leaders in our respective communities.

Yazidi Refugees

Our community is proud to play an active role in helping Yazidi refugees find a new home in Canada. The initiative – referred to as “Operation Ezra” and spearheaded by Jewish Child and Family Service, has raised sufficient funds to sponsor 4 families thus far. View more information here.

Immigration Update

In 2015 we received thousands of requests from people who are dreaming to move to our city. We hosted 115 exploratory visitors: 10 from Brazil, 6 from Turkey, 6 from Argentina, 1 from South Africa, 2 from Russia and 90 from Israel. The Federation provides guidance and faciliates networking for eligible applicants under the Strategic Recruitment Initiative. However, we need your help!  Please email Dalia or call 204-477-7470to connect with families visiting Winnipeg (invite them for a coffee and talk to them about our community).
