Ready For The Summer Of Your Life? Jewish teen athletes encouraged to apply for 2016 JCC Maccabi Games

January 26, 2016

Ready For The Summer Of Your Life?

The Rady Jewish Community Centre is accepting applications from Jewish teen athletes aged 13-16 to take part in the 2016 JCC Maccabi Games in Columbus, Ohio July 24-29, 2016.

Teens and their parents are encouraged to attend an information night on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Rady JCC.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Jewish youth to compete with others athletes, but also foster mutual respect and sportsmanship,” says Rady JCC Maccabi Games co-chair, Al Greenberg. “It’s also about fun and socialization, enriching their Jewish identity in an informal setting.”

Teens will be part of Team Winnipeg that will compete in one of the following sports: baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, tennis, golf, swimming and table tennis.

“Maccabi Games was one of the best experiences I have had as a Jewish athlete,” says past Maccabi athlete, Shiri Berkowitz. “The games gave me the opportunity to participate in playing the sport I love in such a different way than any other program ever has.

“One minute you would be competing and playing hard to get the win, and the next minute you are sitting at lunch with the team you just played against,” Berkowitz adds. “Beyond the competition, Maccabi Games connected me with Jewish people from all over the world whom I am still in touch with today.”
