VICKAR FAMILY ACQUIRES FORD DEALERSHIP ON MAIN ST. ACROSS FROM KILDONAN PARK

by Rhonda Spivak, January 28, 2017

The Vickar family is very excited about their recent acquisition of  the Ford dealership on the corner of Main Street and Templeton Avenue (across from Kildonan Park), which is being renamed Vickar Ford.

" Ford  is a great brand and the potential for growth is tremendous, " says new dealer principal Stephen Vickar,  age 39, who himself has been in the auto business for over 20 years.

Stephen and his staff have rolled up their sleaves and begun working in the new dealership as of January 1. "Our grand opening will be in May," he indicates.

The Vickars take over the  Ford dealership from Cal MacIver who  undertook an upgrade and expansion of the dealership a couple years back.

"We have  a brand new building and we have over 80 team members who are first rate, and we are going to grow that number. This includes adding  more service technicians and support staff ," says Vickar , who adds that the outlet is the only medium duty Ford truck dealer in Winnipeg.

"I'm very impressed with the quality of the Ford brands, such as the  F150 , Escape , Explorer, Edge, Focus, and the iconic Mustang" he says

The new Vickar Ford location offers the North End,  inclusive of Garden City ,Maples and more,  a complete service , autobody, and sales center. There is also a  cafe on site. The Quick lube express service is open six days a week without an appointment  being necessary,  for all makes of cars and trucks.

"Our focus is on  providing service, customer satisfaction and the customer experience,"Stephen says. "We're known for providing high level customer satisfaction."

While Stephen is the principal dealer of the new Vickar Ford he  notes that his father Larry Vickar is always available to offer advice. "He mentors and helps me," Stephen says.

The Vickar Family has an excellent proven record of success, having been in the auto business for over   50 years. The Vickar Auto Group  includes  Vickar Chevrolet, Vickar Nissan, Vickar Mitsubishi, Waverley Mitsubishi and Vickar (Isuzu) Trucks

Currently Stephen is driving a Ford F150 and as he says "I'm really impressed with it." He notes that it runs well and is good for fuel economy. "Ford will be coming out with new version of the F-150 next year," he adds.

Stephen also notes that Ford is one of the leaders in the industry of electric cars. "Ford has a Focus electric car and a CMAX hybrid. In the future Ford is going to have full electric cars and an electric SUV  will be out in two years."

"We intend to to bring the Vickar touch to Vickar Ford," Stephen says, pointing out that within  two years of acquiring their Nissan store from the previous owner, the Vickars turned the store into the top-selling Nissan dealer in Manitoba.

To assist him in running the store, Stephen has brought in Nick Guffei to  be Vickar Ford’s new general manager. "Guffei was most recently the general manager at Vickar our Nissan store and has been working with  us for the past seven years."

Vickar Ford will not be selling Lincoln models after the models currently in stock  are sold but, of course, they will continue to provide warranty and service work for customers who own Lincolns.

"I'm really excited about running ad growing the Vickar Ford dealership. It feels great to be part of the Ford family, and I am looking forward to Ford's new product offerings," Stephen says. "We hope you'll come see our beautiful showroom soon or call us at 204 339 2000."
