WINNIPEG - Jim Carr, MP for Winnipeg-South Centre, issued the following statement in response to last night's threat at the Rady Jewish Community Centre:
I strongly condemn the threat that caused the evacuation of the Rady Jewish Community Centre yesterday. I am thankful that the staff, with the support of the Winnipeg Police Service, were able to ensure the safety of all those in the building at the time.
As a proud member of the Rady Centre, the Jewish community in Winnipeg and Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre, I stand with my community in solidarity against these hateful acts of fear and intolerance.
The Rady Centre is a special place in our community where people are able to learn, play, and congregate in a safe and supportive environment, without fear of persecution.
Our Government is taking action to help protect all Canadians’ rights to be free to practice their faith and culture without fear by renewing and improving the Security Infrastructure Fund. This program helps fund security enhancements such as fencing, cameras, and lighting for community institutions at risk of hate-motivated crime.
