An image of a pig with a hand drawn swastika and two horns and the word satan was posted on the back door of Temple Shalom on Grant Ave on Thursday April 11.
"The picture of the pig looked like it was a cut out from a magazine or something similar. The image was pasted onto the back door of the building with some tape," Linda Freed, president of Temple Shalom told the Winnipeg Jewish Review.
"We haven't gotten something like this before," she said, noting that the synagogue had notified the police and also reported the antisemitic incident to B'nai Brith for purposes of their audit of antisemitic incidents.
Freed said the incident was "a nasty one" and "it's very upsetting."
"One of our staff found it when they were on their way into the building," Freed added, noting that for the last two years "we have been keeping our doors locked at all times."
“Even before this incident occurred we were working to find funds to upgrade our security. After two years we finally have the money in place to improve security features, which will be underway immediately.”
