Bulrushes Gallery, located 3 K West of Winnipeg Beach will host a solo exhibition of selected works by well-known Manitoba artist Roger LaFreniere. Mr. LaFreniere is one of a small group of Manitoba artists now being featured in Bulrushes Gallery new Contemporary Gallery which opened early this summer.
While richly layered landscapes have traditionally defined Mr. LaFreniere’s collection, his more recent work concentrates on the deconstruction of the prairie landscape. Strokes of vivid colour like an evening sunset splash across a canvas as wide as a prairie horizon. His larger paintings can stretch to over five metres in width and hang in some of Winnipeg’s most prominent businesses, bringing the aura of prairie nature indoors. His works can be found in private, corporate and public collections all over Canada.
According to Gallery curator Tim Wall “The exhibition will showcase works never before seen in Bulrushes Gallery and some never before exhibited in Manitoba.” Wall went on to say “Roger captures the magic of the prairies as no one else can and allows us to see the diverse landscapes of Manitoba with a new set of eyes. His paintings reveal a beauty of this land I had not seen before.”
The exhibition will take place August 3rd and 4th from noon to 5:00 P.M. at Bulrushes Gallery, 809 Kernstead Road, Winnipeg Beach.
