Dear Community Members,
I am writing to you from Tel Aviv, as I prepare to return to Winnipeg after this year’s successful Partnership 2Gether (P2G) meetings. For those who are unaware, P2G connects volunteers and professionals from Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Atlantic Canada to communities in the most northern part of Israel, including those that are literally an arm’s length from the Lebanese border. I’ve particularly enjoyed the sharing of ideas that took place during this year’s meetings, and how we can work together to help improve the lives of Jews in this region through education, social services and health care.
It has been a busy month at Federation, and our annual campaign has continued to build momentum thanks to your support. As of today, we have raised $4,500,992 that will go directly towards funding the vital services of Federation’s beneficiary agencies, services and programs. If you have not already made your donation you can do so here, and if you have already, my sincerest thanks for doing your part for your community.
Now that the Federal election has concluded, I would like to congratulate all of the new and returning Members of Parliament. We look forward to continuing to work together on issues of importance to the Jewish community. Mazel tov!
This past Sunday was the one year anniversary of the most brutal antisemitic attack in North American history when a gunman opened fire in the Tree of Life building in Pittsburgh, taking the lives of 11 innocent people. Looking back one year later, I remember the grief we all felt as a community, but also the outpouring of support that we received as thousands gathered at Congregation Shaarey Zedek to show solidarity with our community. Let us all remember, and may the memory of those who lost their lives be a blessing.
I would like to remind you that this coming Wednesday is our annual Kristallnacht commemoration program, The Music of Remembrance. Please join us at the Eckhardt Gramatté Hall on November 6 as we mark the 81st anniversary of Kristallnacht. The event will feature an evening of music including Eddy’s Story by composer Sid Robinovitch based on a memoir by Eddy Sterk, a Holocaust survivor from Poland. Please see here for an article that appeared in today's Winnipeg Free Press about the event. If you are interested in attending this free event, further details can be found here.
The following week, please join Women's Philanthropy at the Inn at the Forks for an intimate evening with former Winnipegger Dr. Sherri Wise as she tells of turning anger into forgiveness, and finding a silver lining in the worst of circumstances after surviving a triple suicide bombing in Jerusalem. Please join us on Tuesday, November 12 to hear her story of optimism and resilience by registering here.
